International use of colour in Architecture

This full day seminar aims at giving you a better understanding of colour, colour specification and of the Natural Colour System. The Seminar runs from 08h00 to 16h00 and includes practical exercises, demonstrations and discussions. Certificates will be awarded for the seminar.

The Workshop includes practical exercises, demonstrations and discussions. The program runs as follows:

  • To be able to communicate colours
  • Why colour order systems
  • Elementary colours’ attributes
  • Description of colour verbally and with graphic symbols
  • NCS in practice
  • The NCS Colour Atlas
  • NCS colour samples and colour sample collections
  • NCS as a practical tool in colour communication
  • Colour areas
  • Similarities and relationships between colours
  • Colour combinations
  • NCS in colour research
  • Colour and meaning
  • Exterior colour design
  • Traditional colour scales
  • Colour in distance
  • Natures’ colour palette
  • The change of colour impressions

Each student will receive a Colour Wheel, a Colour Triangle as well as a Colour Mask. The student will receive a folder with the exercises for reference purposes.

  • D7 – Hue Differences
  • D8 – Nuance Differences
  • E1 – Elementary Colours and Elementary Attributes
  • D4 – Colour Circle
  • E2 -  Colour Triangle
  • E3 – Colour Areas
  • NCS 1-4 – Training in Colour Analysis

Who should attend:
Architects, interior and product designers and others who make creative colour judgements on a day to day basis and want to gain or improve their skills. The South African Institute of Architects has assessed and validated this Category one CPD Activity.  The activity carries 2 CPD credits.

Price per student is R2000.00

Course is offered in all regions of Southern Africa on an ad hoc basis.
